Dear Premium Partners and Clients,

From 26th February to 2nd March 2018, over 50 representatives, namely project developers and engineering service companies, from the Ghanaian solar sector participated in the first German Project Development Training Week in Accra. The training week was organised by GIZ’s Project Development Programme (PDP) in cooperation with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) and the German based Photovoltaic Institute (PI), on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) within the German Energy Solutions Initiative.

Participants gained profound understanding on different aspects of project development and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, including system components such as inverters and storage possibilities, feasibility studies, tendering and procurement, commissioning, operation and maintenance as well as legal aspects. Participants of the GPDTW also received a set of tools, such as checklists, financial models, calculation tools and templates to assist them in realising high quality future projects in an effective and standardised manner.

The trainings did not only focus on fundamental knowledge but also provided practical experiences delivered by professionals coming from 4 German companies: Autarsys, Becker Büttner Held, Ecoligo and SMA Sunbelt, who are looking into the Ghanaian solar market with great interest.

With the German Project Development Training Week, the Project Development Programme (PDP) aims to support Ghanaian enterprises to develop high quality solar PV and storage projects in the area of embedded generation with commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. The training content covered the key technical, commercial and legal aspects of renewable energy project development. The training week also provided a platform for technology and know-how transfer as well as facilitated business partnerships between companies from Germany and Ghana. We are happy that the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy with the German Energy Solutions Initiative supports that training in Ghana”, says Mrs. Cathleen Seeger, Project Manager from GIZ PDP.
