Report Launch on Access to Clean Drinking Water & Sustainable Water Management in Ghana

The Delegation of German Industry & Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana), which is part of the network of bilateral chambers, delegations and representatives of German business abroad, consults and represents German companies that wish to develop and expand their business activities to Ghana. Through its Competence Centre for Energy & Environment, they offer tailored market advice and support services in the form of high-value market studies, fact-finding missions, capacity building workshops, conferences and business-to-business matchmaking to companies looking to expand to Ghana and francophone West Africa.

Today, the Delegation of German Industry & Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) set out a blue print for sustainable access to clean drinking water and sustainable water management in Ghana. Drawing on the current situation, trends with analysis and evidence from leading experts and stakeholders in the water sector, AHK Ghana has outlined top priorities areas with a focus on developing holistic approaches to the challenges facing the water sector in Ghana.

With support from the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety‚Äôs BMU Environmental Technologies Export Initiative, the Delegation of German Industry & Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) will organize a stakeholder workshop on Tuesday, 13th November 2018. The workshop will serve to facilitate a professional and solution-oriented exchange between relevant actors from Ghana and Germany. In addition to a transfer of knowledge and approaches to financing; technical expertise and capacity building, the foundation for further practical cooperation between the participants will be laid out in a strategy paper. The workshop will focus on government officials, NGOs, civil society organizations, the private sector, banks and development organizations involved in this topic.

The workshop will not only focus on fundamental knowledge but also provide a practical approach (strategy paper) delivered by the participants with the aim to: 

  • Develop a strategy paper which identifies the solutions and next steps for building sustainable water management and drinking water supply practices in Ghana.
  • Invite technical inputs into the proposed strategy paper to enhance its efficiency and relevance of future projects in the water sector in Ghana.
  • The establishment of a regional competency centre for water in Ghana, a central coordination platform, with regular coordination meetings with all relevant stakeholders

About the Project 

The Delegation of German Industry & Commerce in Ghana is implementing the project as commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation & Nuclear Safety (BMU) under the Environmental Technologies Export Initiative. 

The Environmental Technologies Export Initiative focuses on the transfer of knowledge and technology, especially in areas of competence which includes water and waste water management. The initiative aims to support the development and realization of projects using innovative solutions and technologies as a feasible alternative to conventional methods in emerging markets, via providing market information, capacity building for local actors and facilitating business partnerships and the exchange of experience and expertise between German and Ghanaian companies.
