Ghana ranked 2nd safest-01.jpg

The ranking attributed the West African country’s position to its independent judicial system, multiparty democracy, freedom of speech, and free press. In terms of the Global Peace Index, Ghana surpassed Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, China, and even Jamaica.

In the Terrorism Index, it is among the countries with a zero score. Its crime rate is lower than in Canada, Greece, and Australia. Regarding the Global Safety Report and the Human Development Index, Ghana, however, lags behind all “first-world” countries yet outperforms the majority of African nations, including popular tourist destinations like Kenya, Ethiopia, and Madagascar (often romanticized in Hollywood).

Meanwhile, Mauritius is the safest place to live in Africa. Zambia, Namibia and Morroco placed 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. Tunisia (6th), Egypt (7th) and Tanzania (8th) followed suit.
